Space4Grace on June 21st

FROM: Bishop Paul L. Leeland
TO; WNCC Clergy

Dear Friends,
I want to invite you to participate in one of two Space4Grace events on Thursday, June 21, the day of our Executive Session of Clergy Members. These Sabbath experiences are brought to us by the Sabbath Living Initiative. There will be two different options offered - either from 10:30 to 2:00 before the Clergy Session or from 5:30 to 9:00 after the Clergy Session.  Both of these sessions will include a Sabbath meal and a time of conversation around the theology and practice of Sabbath.  They will be held at the Waynesville Inn (176 Country Club Drive, Waynesville, North Carolina 28786), just a short 10 minute drive from Lake Junaluska Conference and Retreat Center. You are welcome to bring your spouse and/or lay delegate with you.
My prayer is that the time together on June 21 might be the beginning of a renewal of a Sabbath lifestyle in which we live at the pace of grace, make regular space for grace, and help our churches become a place of grace. Dr. Guy Brewer and the Sabbath Living team will be with us to facilitate conversation and provide wonderful resources for Sabbath living.
I especially want to encourage pastors who are in transition this year to take part in Space4Grace. I cannot think of a better way to begin in a new place ministry than to rededicate oneself to a Sabbath lifestyle of worship.
There is no cost to you for this event. Sabbath Living will provide a stipend for overnight lodging for those who need it. To register for Space4Grace on June 21, click on the link below. Please indicate if you have dietary restrictions or preferences so that preparations can be made for you.
Praying with you in anticipation that God will do wonderful things among us this Annual Conference,
Bishop Paul Leeland

The Appalachian District Church Vitality Team has been prayerfully seeking ways to help support you and the ministries of your local congregation during this COVID-19 pandemic. Together they have diligently researched and connected with others throughout the conference and our denomination to identify resources and offer them to you. We hope they will be helpful to you and bless you greatly in leading your churches and communities through this unprecedented time. We are very grateful to the District Vitality Team and other contributors for their great work on this resource.
This faithful team has created three documents, two of which you are receiving today. They include:

  • Family Home Worship – designed to help families establish a regular worship space within their homes as well as a time where they can worship together.
  • Tech Strategies – to help guide you in selecting effective tools and resources within your budget to best communicate in the digital world.

We believe these resources will be of great benefit to you. Also know that the District Vitality Team is available to answer any questions you might have in regards to the documents attached. If you have questions, you may email Rev. Howard Fleming at
