New grants for churches needing websites
Website Development Grants are for local United Methodist churches and church entities who do not currently have a website.
Through this new grant, United Methodist Communications will offer the following:
- One year of webhosting
- One year of domain name registration
- Free WordPress online training through UMCOM
- Free online support throughout your training and during your year of web hosting
- Free pre-designed templates for easy development of your new website
United Methodist Churches and church entities who wish to replace their current website with a WordPress site may also apply. You can transfer your present URL, but please understand that you will have to rebuild your entire website on WordPress. Transferring a URL does not mean that the content transfers with it. All pages and functions will have to be rebuilt. Please consider this carefully before you apply.
If your church is a current UMCom webhosting customer, you will only be eligible for the free online training portion of the grant.
PLEASE NOTE: Basic computer skills and some understanding of uploading content to website templates will be needed to complete the course and build your website. Make sure those taking the course and/or acting as your church website coordinator(s) have these skills before you apply.
Central Conference Churches: We are currently accepting applications for grants for Episcopal Area offices only.
See our Website Development FAQ»
All grants are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
NOTE: If you are a two or three point charge and want to have separate websites for each church, you will need to fill out a separate application for each church.

RESOURCES TO CONNECT WITH THE COMMUNITY:
The Appalachian District Church Vitality Team has been prayerfully seeking ways to help support you and the ministries of your local congregation during this COVID-19 pandemic. Together they have diligently researched and connected with others throughout the conference and our denomination to identify resources and offer them to you. We hope they will be helpful to you and bless you greatly in leading your churches and communities through this unprecedented time. We are very grateful to the District Vitality Team and other contributors for their great work on this resource.
This faithful team has created three documents, two of which you are receiving today. They include:
- Family Home Worship – designed to help families establish a regular worship space within their homes as well as a time where they can worship together.
- Tech Strategies – to help guide you in selecting effective tools and resources within your budget to best communicate in the digital world.
We believe these resources will be of great benefit to you. Also know that the District Vitality Team is available to answer any questions you might have in regards to the documents attached. If you have questions, you may email Rev. Howard Fleming at email@example.com.
