Melissa McGill to Serve as Director of Communications

Please join us in welcoming the newest member to the Western North Carolina Conference staff, Melissa McGill, in the role of Director of Communications, effective August 20th.    Melissa received her undergraduate degree from Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC, and a Master’s Degree in Mass Communication from the University of South Carolina, School of Journalism and Mass Communications.
Melissa’s most recent role as Assistant Director of Communications for Myers Park United Methodist Church has prepared her well for this role.  Prior to joining Myers Park, she served in a similar role at Weddington United Methodist Church, and  prior to that as the Communications Manager for the Cabarrus County Convention and Visitors Bureau.  In her previous roles, she managed strategic digital communication for large congregations, coordinated website redesign, and developed overall strategy for communication (including social media, press releases, on-line and printed materials.)
In this Conference position, Melissa will support the Bishop and conference in ensuring the communication of all relevant information in a timely manner as well as developing best practices to assist churches in spreading the gospel.  We are excited about the gifts and passion she brings to this position.

Effective August 20th you will be able to contact Melissa the Conference Office, 13924 Professional Center Drive, Suite 200, Huntersville, NC.  She can be reached by phone: 704-535-2260, or by email:

The Appalachian District Church Vitality Team has been prayerfully seeking ways to help support you and the ministries of your local congregation during this COVID-19 pandemic. Together they have diligently researched and connected with others throughout the conference and our denomination to identify resources and offer them to you. We hope they will be helpful to you and bless you greatly in leading your churches and communities through this unprecedented time. We are very grateful to the District Vitality Team and other contributors for their great work on this resource.
This faithful team has created three documents, two of which you are receiving today. They include:

  • Family Home Worship – designed to help families establish a regular worship space within their homes as well as a time where they can worship together.
  • Tech Strategies – to help guide you in selecting effective tools and resources within your budget to best communicate in the digital world.

We believe these resources will be of great benefit to you. Also know that the District Vitality Team is available to answer any questions you might have in regards to the documents attached. If you have questions, you may email Rev. Howard Fleming at
