Dr. Otto Harris Receives United Methodist Men Award


Rev. Dr. Otto D. Harris, III was recently honored as a recipient of the Society of John Wesley Award. The John Wesley Award is the highest award presented the United Methodist Men Foundation. Rev. Harris is an ordained elder in full connection to the Western North Carolina Conference and serves as pastor of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Charlotte. 
Dr. Harris is the Organizer and Director of Pass the Peace Feasts which bring black youth together with police officers and other community leaders in a social gathering. He is involved in projects that spiritually nurture and provide sustenance to the homeless and hungry in the community including the soup kitchen ministry at St. Mark’s UMC.
In the WNCC, he is known for his service on the Conference Worship Committee;  as a discernment team chair of the Metro District Committee on Ordained Ministry; Adjunct Faculty Member, Hood Theological Seminary; Board Member, Brotherhood/Sisterhood of Western North Carolina; Black Methodists for Church Renewal and a Member, Western North Carolina Justice and Reconciliation Team.
Rev. Dr. Harris is also a Member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated.

The Appalachian District Church Vitality Team has been prayerfully seeking ways to help support you and the ministries of your local congregation during this COVID-19 pandemic. Together they have diligently researched and connected with others throughout the conference and our denomination to identify resources and offer them to you. We hope they will be helpful to you and bless you greatly in leading your churches and communities through this unprecedented time. We are very grateful to the District Vitality Team and other contributors for their great work on this resource.
This faithful team has created three documents, two of which you are receiving today. They include:

  • Family Home Worship – designed to help families establish a regular worship space within their homes as well as a time where they can worship together.
  • Tech Strategies – to help guide you in selecting effective tools and resources within your budget to best communicate in the digital world.
