2021 Wesley Theological Seminary MILK, Jr. Lectures
SAVE THE DATE: 2021 Wesley Theological Seminary Martin Luther King, Jr. Lecture, Thursday, February 18, 2021, 4:30 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. via Zoom.
Wesley is pleased to invite all to hear this year's guest lecturer, Allissa V. Richardson, PhD, assistant professor of journalism at The University of Southern California's Annenberg School for Communications and Journalism (USCAnnenberg) in Los Angeles, CA.
Dr. Richardson's focus of research is on "how African Americans use mobile and social media to produce innovative forms of journalism — especially in times of crisis." Richardson’s research is informed by her award-winning work as a journalism innovator. She is considered a pioneer in mobile journalism (MOJO), having launched the world’s first smartphone-only college newsrooms in 2010, in the U.S., Morocco and South Africa.
She is the author of "Bearing Witness While Black: African Americans, Smartphones and the New Protest #Journalism" (Oxford University Press, 2020).
A question and answer period will follow the lecture during the Dean's Forum, moderated by The Rev. Dr. Asa Lee, Associate Dean for Community Life and Director of African American Church Studies. Please register for Zoom access: http://ow.ly/Enzh50DlnHd (photo by DaJuana Jones)

RESOURCES TO CONNECT WITH THE COMMUNITY:
The Appalachian District Church Vitality Team has been prayerfully seeking ways to help support you and the ministries of your local congregation during this COVID-19 pandemic. Together they have diligently researched and connected with others throughout the conference and our denomination to identify resources and offer them to you. We hope they will be helpful to you and bless you greatly in leading your churches and communities through this unprecedented time. We are very grateful to the District Vitality Team and other contributors for their great work on this resource.
This faithful team has created three documents, two of which you are receiving today. They include:
- Family Home Worship – designed to help families establish a regular worship space within their homes as well as a time where they can worship together.
- Tech Strategies – to help guide you in selecting effective tools and resources within your budget to best communicate in the digital world.
We believe these resources will be of great benefit to you. Also know that the District Vitality Team is available to answer any questions you might have in regards to the documents attached. If you have questions, you may email Rev. Howard Fleming at firstname.lastname@example.org.
