The Rev. Dr. Carl Arrington

Serving as the Appalachian District Superintendent

Prior to being appointed to Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church, Dr. Arrington served as the Director of African-American Ministries and Coordinator of Social Justice Ministries at the Lake Junaluska Conference & Retreat Center. There he designed programs to address the unique needs of African-American congregations and the pastors of the Southeastern Jurisdiction and beyond as they sought to create vibrant and growing congregations.

For over twenty years, he has served as pastor of congregations throughout North Carolina, including Berry Temple, Wilson Chapel and Simpson-Gillespie United Methodist churches.

Reverend Arrington is an ordained Elder in the Western North Carolina Conference of The United Methodist Church and a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke Divinity School. He received his Doctor of Ministry from Drew University Theological School of Madison, New Jersey and has completed life coach training from Coach University, Coach Training Alliance and is a certified New Life Story Wellness Coach.

 


The Rev. Gloria Hughes

Appalachian District cHURCH VITALITY STRATEGIST

Rev. Gloria Hughes joined the staff of the Appalachian District Office as the Church Vitality Strategist in July of 2018. Prior to coming to the Appalachian District, she served Clemmons UMC where she led the congregation in Discipleship and Equipping the Laity for Ministry and Outreach. She has a passion for helping others develop faithful “followship” of Jesus and living into their own call as a passionate disciples of Jesus Christ. Gloria is a passionate lover of God and all God’s people.

Gloria is a founding partner for the Foundation for Christian Formation and also serves as the Executive Director of the Foundation. FCF Confirm leads a series of Confirmation retreats for churches in the Southeastern Jurisdiction of the UMC. She serves as the Executrive Director of the Foundation for Christian Formation

Gloria is an ordained Deacon in the UMC and serves as the Chair of the Order of Deacons for the WNC Annual Conference.


Mrs. Katie Hutton

Appalachian District Administrator

Katie started working at the District Office on January 26, 2015. Her previous professions include HR, Insurance Work, Sales and being an at home mom. She enjoys the outdoors, traveling, crafting and the number one on her list is spending time with her family.

Katie and her husband Stacy will be welcoming a baby boy into the world anytime in December. She will be on Maternity leave in January and most of February. If you need anything at all district related please contact feel free to contact the District Office and someone will direct you on who is covering for her while she is out.
